We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization promoting the collection of donations, toys, and books for kids in need year-round: birthdays, holidays, medical situations and personal loss. Our mission is partly accomplished through Child Hero™, a youth service-learning program giving children an opportunity to develop community service and citizenship values by helping, through our program, other children in need.
(1.) We help kids in need year round. Throughout the year we distribute donations.
(2) We help children develop community service and citizenship values through service learning. We believe that children should be empowered to help others, make a positive difference in the community, and serve as role models.
The best way to help is to make a monetary donation. Donations assist our organization in acquiring much needed supplies for collection and distribution efforts. Moreover, donations will help to realize our organizational vision of developing the Child Hero™ youth service-learning program into a sustainable community model.
The Metro Toy Drive story, started during the holiday season of 2009: A young man, who faced significant challenges with the recession, decided to volunteer his time supporting local toy drives; he was able to enlist the support of over 100 businesses and organizations within a two-week period to help collect toys for kids in need. In the process, he discovered a joy and passion for the cause.
Child Hero™ was inspired by parents wanting to involve their children in support of Metro Toy Drive™, to help other kids in need. Children have the ability to lead positive change, granted they are empowered with a framework that provides the necessary instruction, tools, and support system. Our program was designed to be structured, yet dynamic. We promote value co-creation by encouraging participants to share their ideas regarding how our cause can be more effective.
